about

Another of my little analog adventures, trying to capture the feeling and excitement of the longest (and growing) subway system in the world.

This started on the Korg DS-10 running on a Nintendo DS. I programmed the drums, bass, and arpegios there using the included step sequencer. The original idea was to get the progressions laid down in the DS-10, which is a mono synth, btw, and keep the DS-10 sound fairly raw (little to no effects).

The analog stereo output of the Nintendo was recorded to tracks 1 and 2 of my Tascam Portastudio 414 mk II analog 4 track cassette recorder. Next, lead and pad synths were added using the Alesis Micron and Roland Alpha Juno 2, respectively, all on track 3 with a lot of spring reverb on each.

Lastly, the vocals were added to track 4, using a Texas Instruments Speak 'n Spell running through compression and more spring reverb.

The stereo mix from the Tascam was recorded into Audacity with no further enhancement.
